On Monday, Craig and I will be celebrating 19 years of blissful matrimony. I am obviously using the term “blissful” sarcastically. We are from two different backgrounds. I am a city girl who uses Saturday’s to relax and enjoy that day. He’s a farmer who thinks every Saturday needs to be filled with work from…
Read MoreFor years, I have often said that December was our families busiest month. Holiday shopping, decorating, addressing Christmas cards and preparing baked goodies, filled most of our (or should I say, my) days. I’m now going to state that I was, in fact, wrong. December is not our busiest month. It’s May. Track and field,…
Read MoreMy Beloved is Mine, and I Am His Last year, I participated in Proverbs 31’s First 5 study of Song of Solomon. This beautiful love story focuses not only on the love between a man and a woman but also it’s a clear reminder that God created romance for His children to be expressed fully,…

After a few weeks of praying and family meetings, we decided to sell our camper and give up our amazing spot at a beautiful campground. The memories of all the fun we had while camping came flooding back to…
Read More“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:22 ESV Whenever this verse comes up in a sermon, my husband always gives me a mischievous smile and I, in turn, just roll my eyes at him. This is the verse that causes women everywhere to groan at the thought of submitting themselves to their…
Read MoreAs soon as I rolled over, I knew something was wrong that Tuesday morning. The clock read 4:30 am, and it was moving in a circle. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep, hoping and praying that it was just extreme exhaustion. By 7:00 am, I knew that it wasn’t. The dizziness and…

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. It’s a time of anticipation and waiting. It is a period of reflection and spiritual preparation for the coming of Christ. Over these next four Sundays, let’s focus on the hope, peace, joy, and love our Savior brings!
FOR TO US A CHILD IS BORN
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon[a] his shoulder, and his name shall be called[b]
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Long after Moses authored Genesis, the Jewish people had
forgotten the Lord. He was the One who brought them out of slavery from
Egypt and into the Promised Land that was flowing with “milk and honey,”
(Exodus 3:8). The Lord’s chosen people were in a crisis. They were living
for themselves and enjoying every sinful thing imaginable. The Lord was
about to shake up His people, using the Prophet Isaiah.
Among the spiritual gloom that had taken over the Israelites, combined
with the prophetic message that the empire of Assyria would overtake the
Israelites (Isaiah 8), lies the joy and hope of who is to come. Darkness was
upon them, but a Light would soon appear. A Light that would bring redemption not only to Jews but to each one of us through Christ’s shed blood on the cross.
Tucked into Isaiah 9:6 is our hope. A hope that through Jesus Christ, we
will have eternal life with the Father. A hope that because of that eternal
life, there will be no more pain, suffering, tears, or sin. A hope that would
get us through the worst of times here on earth.
