He Will Fight for You!

As soon as I rolled over, I knew something was wrong that Tuesday morning.

The clock read 4:30 am, and it was moving in a circle. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep, hoping and praying that it was just extreme exhaustion.

By 7:00 am, I knew that it wasn’t.

The dizziness and extreme nausea were later determined to be vertigo by the ER doctor. My symptoms were so bad that I couldn’t eat or walk. I just wanted to sleep and not move. My wonderful husband of 18 years, Craig, insisted on taking me to the ER. It was the night before the 4th of July, and we knew the doctor’s office wouldn’t be open the next day.  After bickering back and forth, I finally agreed. It was then that my knight in shining armor helped me shower (because I insisted on looking somewhat decent!) and get in the car for the 15-minute drive.  I was completely relying on Craig for everything – something that this independent, strong-willed woman is not used to.

After a 6 hour visit to the ER, we were finally able to go home around 3:00 am. With the medicine and the IV that I received, I was able to walk out to the car on my own with no assistance. I thought that I was in the clear, but as the day progressed, the symptoms returned, and I felt even worse than I did before going to the ER.

At 8:00 am Thursday morning, Craig called my general practitioner’s office and requested an appointment. The doctor wasn’t available that day, but the receptionist said that she would get a message to the nurse and get back to him. He called again at 9:00 am and got the same response.

He was fighting for me.

Craig was bound and determined that I was going to get the medical attention that I needed. He was not going to give up until he achieved that – which he did.

Do you know who else fights for me, for us?

The LORD Himself.

In Exodus 14, the Israelites had just come upon the Red Sea and were essentially trapped. The water was before them, and the Egyptian army was behind them. They were crying out and, quite frankly, complaining to Moses about their circumstances. “Why did you make us leave?”, they grumbled, “We wanted to serve the Egyptians. Sure we were slaves, but at least we weren’t wonderers out here in the desert!” Over and over they complained until Mose had had enough! “The LORD will fight for you, and you only have to be silent.” One simple sentence calmed the people down, and with Mose’s outstretched arm, the sea parted, and the Israelites were on their way to freedom.

Be Silent.

Much like the Israelites, I was complaining over and over to Craig that this illness would eventually pass if he would just let me be. Thankfully, he didn’t listen to me! He fought for me and got me the help that I needed, and for that, I am so grateful!

I am even more grateful that through this and every other circumstance in my life, the LORD is with me every step of the way. Sometimes I just need to LET GO, LET GOD FIGHT FOR ME, and BE SILENT!
