2 Timothy 1:7

It’s Time for Some Silence and Solitude, Mom!

You did it, mom! Your children are back to school and back to a routine.

Take a deep breath, because you deserve it!

Go ahead, do it!

Breath in,

And let it out…

Now, doesn’t that feel better?

You’ve done y0ur job getting the children back to school; now it’s time to focus on you!

The Season of Motherhood

What season of motherhood are you in?

  • Infants and toddlers?
  • Children and tweens?
  • Teenagers?
  • College-aged young adults?
  • Adult children?

Whatever season you are in, you need some silence and solitude! I know what you are thinking, “How in the world do I find time for myself, when my calendar is full from 7:00 am to 10:00 PM?”

You schedule it.

Seriously, jot it down in your calendar, set a reminder on your phone and do it!

You have it on the calendar, now what will you do?

So, you have your scheduled time, and I bet you are starting to feel a little guilty, right?

We moms are wired to be in constant motion, so when we do take a moment for ourselves, we tend to feel guilty, or maybe feel a little lazy?

Remove that thought from your mind right now!

You need this silence and solitude time because it will benefit your mind, body, soul, and spirit! Our families will also benefit from our “me time” because there may be times when we are so exhausted that we get a little snippy with them. I know I am not the only one who can get snippy! It’s alright to admit it, moms, we are in this together!

Here are a few ideas on what to do with your silence and solitude time:

  1. Pray – use this time to grow your relationship with the Lord.
  2. Read your Bible.
  3. Take a nap.
  4. Go to the coffee shop and read a book.
  5. Take a walk.
  6. Write or journal.
  7. Listen to some of your favorite worship music.

Overnight Silence and Solitude

If it’s possible, plan an overnight trip by yourself. You will be amazed at what you can find within an hours drive of your house!

Some state parks have cabins to rent, and in the offseason summer camps often rent out their cabins for a small fee. Check into some Airbnb’s or Bed & Breakfasts in your area, and you may be able to find some great deals!

I am fortunate to have a retreat center about an hour away from where we live. For a nominal fee, I can stay in a hotel-style room with all the comforts of home and the meals are included! It’s equipped with a prayer chapel, a labyrinth to walk, and is situated in the country far away from the hustle and bustle of the state capital.

My 24 hours of silence and solitude time begins on Friday evening.

I desperately need this!

My family knows that I need this and they look forward to me coming back home refreshed and relaxed!

Turn to Jesus for Rest!

Oh, sweet friends, as moms, we carry a lot on our shoulders. The weight can often feel as if we are going to crash and burn, and we will if we don’t find rest.

During those times, run to Jesus! He is and will always be there for you! He will take the weariness and burdens from us and give us rest! That’s why it’s so important to schedule your “me time.” Use that time to talk to Jesus, meditate on His Word, and cling to Him!

I am praying for every one of you! Remember, you are NOT alone in this journey called motherhood!
