Spiritual Disciplines – What Are They and Why Practice Them?

By Missy Eversole /

In talking with a friend the other day, the subject of spiritual disciplines came up in our conversation. What exactly are spiritual disciplines, and how do we practice them? In the past, I’ve always had the thought that the only people who practiced spiritual disciplines were monks hidden away in a monastery high up in…

Five Verses to Pray when You are Angry With God

By Missy Eversole /

With all the COVID-19 restrictions these last few months, our 14-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Bailey, was in dire need of grooming. One of the best-known things about Cockers is that their hair grows incredibly long, and when maintained, it’s quite beautiful. However, for our family, it’s easier to keep Bailey shaved down. It’s cooler on him,…

Finding Shelter Amid the Storms

By Missy Eversole /

Throughout the past few years, I’ve never really liked how our front porch looked. In my mind, a front porch should look inviting and warm. Ours looked dark and cold. With a metal table and two chairs, I tried my best to spruce it up with decorative pillows, a bright wreath on the door, or…

Five Ways to Quiet Your Heart

By Missy Eversole /

Five Ways to Quiet Your Heart No one cried out of frustration. No one whined because they didn’t get to what they wanted to do. No one argued with one another. No one asked the dreaded question, “Are we there yet?” No one got mad at her family because they were getting on her last…

Celebrating My First Father’s Day Without My Dad

By Missy Eversole /

Celebrating My First Father’s Day Without My Dad This past Sunday, we celebrated Father’s Day. The boys and I enjoyed our day with Craig. We took a drive around a lake, laughed, and enjoyed spending time together. My heart hurt, though. Not because of anything that Craig did; he is an amazing dad to our…

Letting Go, Learning to Fly and Loving Unconditionally

Letting Go, Learning to Fly and Loving Unconditionally Letting Go I am now the proud parent of a high school graduate. Originally scheduled for May 17th, my son was finally able to switch the tassel from right to left this past Sunday. Thanks to COVID, instead of sitting in an air-conditioned church sanctuary, we sat…

Still Cultivating

By Missy Eversole /

Still Cultivating My word for the beginning of 2020 was “Cultivate.” The definition of cultivating is “to promote the growth or development.” Wanting to grow as a writer and in my faith, I choose this year to plant my roots. And then the pandemic came. We canceled our spring break trip. The last two months…

Jesus Commands Us to Love One Another

By Missy Eversole /

Jesus Commands Us to Love One Another Did you know that Jesus commands us to love one another? He doesn’t suggest that we love one another. He doesn’t say, “I think it would be good for you to love one another,” or “If you feel like loving one another, that’s your choice. I’m good with…

Today Let’s Rejoice, Be Patient and Be Constant!

By Missy Eversole /

Today Let’s Rejoice, Be Patient and Be Constant! It’s day 3,198 of our shelter-in-place. Ok, it’s not, but it feels like it! It’s been an emotional roller-coaster these last few days. The governor extended our shelter-in-place for another month. My sons are missing their classmates and are ready to be done with e-learning, and I…

Guess What? You Cannot Hide from God!

By Missy Eversole /

Guess What? You Cannot Hide from God! When the COVID-19 shelter-in-place hit, no one was more in shock than Bailey, our soon-to-be 14-year-old cocker spaniel. His routine days began with scrambled eggs for breakfast and watching my husband and boys leave for work and school. Bailey then peacefully napped while keeping one eye on me…

Peace doesn’t always come when life gets quieter — sometimes it comes when we finally slow down enough to notice God.

This week on the Bold Faith Now podcast, I’m joined by counselor and author A.C. Seiple, and we talk about what it looks like to step out of hurry, listen to our bodies, and let God meet us with His peace right where we are.

If your soul feels tired or overwhelmed, this conversation offers a gentle invitation to pause and breathe again.

Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or at MissyEversole.com.

It's Week Three of Advent, and this is the week of JOY and not the fragile, temporary kind.

This is the joy that comes from Jesus Himself, and not the joy the world can’t take away.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

Even if life feels heavy and the holidays stir up grief or longing, JOY isn’t something you have to force. It’s something God faithfully supplies.

May your heart catch unexpected glimpses of joy this week, joy that strengthens, uplifts, and reminds you that Jesus is near.

What’s one small joy you’ve noticed this season? For me, it’s spending a few minutes a day sitting in silence, looking at the lights on our Christmas tree, and praising Him.

If you’re feeling the pressure to do it all, be it all, and hold it all together, you are not alone.

In this week’s Bold Faith Now episode, I talk with author and speaker Grace Fox about the peace that doesn’t depend on a perfect holiday season. We walk through several names of God—like Yahweh Shalom, El Shaddai, and Emmanuel—and how they bring calm to anxious hearts.

Listen to "Finding Peace in a Chaotic World," in your favorite podcast app or on my website: https://missyeversole.com/blog/089-finding-peace-in-a-chaotic-world-with-grace-fox/

It’s Week Two of Advent, and the week we remember that true peace isn’t found in perfect plans or even in the perfect Christmas, but in a perfect Savior.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)

Peace doesn’t mean everything feels calm.

Peace means Jesus holds you steady right in the middle of what feels overwhelming.

As we light the second candle, may its soft glow remind you that His presence is your peace, today and every day.

Where do you need God’s peace to settle in your heart this week? For me, it is leaning on Jesus when the darkness of this world wants to creep in.
