Read MoreOn Sunday, America celebrated its 245th year of freedom. And based on the number of fireworks I heard on Saturday, it was a two-day celebration for many people! Although, for me, while the 4th of July brings many joyful memories of family get-togethers and cookouts – it also carries a little fear. Thankfully, this past…
Read MoreWith the joys of summer here, vacations and family gatherings are in full swing. As we enjoy ourselves to the fullest, we often step out of our everyday routine of studying the Word. As a result, our intake of God’s Word tends to be put on the back burner (I am guilty of this, too!).…
Read MoreSummer weather in the midwest can change in an instant. One minute, it’s hot and humid; the next minute, there is a thunderstorm rolling through. Life is unpredictable too. Thankfully, we can focus on Jesus to get us through our storms. Life is Unpredictable Much like a thunderstorm that causes chaos, certain situations in life…

Read MoreSummer is finally here, and for years, I’ve always associated summer with one thing – reading! Summer Reading During my childhood, I would participate in the summer program at my local library. Hopping on my bike and heading downtown to the library, I couldn’t wait to walk through the bookcases upon bookcases looking for that…

Because of the pandemic, his semester break had been extended an additional two weeks. As a family, we celebrated the…
Read MoreWe did it! For those of us with students, the end of the school year is upon us. However, our students need to make it through final exams and projects before the joys of summer can begin. Today is the first Sunday of Advent. It’s a time of anticipation and waiting. It is a period of reflection and spiritual preparation for the coming of Christ. Over these next four Sundays, let’s focus on the hope, peace, joy, and love our Savior brings!
FOR TO US A CHILD IS BORN
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon[a] his shoulder, and his name shall be called[b]
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Long after Moses authored Genesis, the Jewish people had
forgotten the Lord. He was the One who brought them out of slavery from
Egypt and into the Promised Land that was flowing with “milk and honey,”
(Exodus 3:8). The Lord’s chosen people were in a crisis. They were living
for themselves and enjoying every sinful thing imaginable. The Lord was
about to shake up His people, using the Prophet Isaiah.
Among the spiritual gloom that had taken over the Israelites, combined
with the prophetic message that the empire of Assyria would overtake the
Israelites (Isaiah 8), lies the joy and hope of who is to come. Darkness was
upon them, but a Light would soon appear. A Light that would bring redemption not only to Jews but to each one of us through Christ’s shed blood on the cross.
Tucked into Isaiah 9:6 is our hope. A hope that through Jesus Christ, we
will have eternal life with the Father. A hope that because of that eternal
life, there will be no more pain, suffering, tears, or sin. A hope that would
get us through the worst of times here on earth.
