This week, I will write about some things that caught my eye while reading Paul David Tripp’s “Journey to the Cross: A 40-Day Lenten Devotional.”
Today’s quote is, “Jesus was born with a cross in his future, so that there would be such a thing as forgiveness for sin.”
Our Savior stepped down from His heavenly throne for one reason, to give us eternal life through His death.
We are forgiven.

Lent Day 28 - #Lent2023
Lent is the perfect time to engage in the spiritual habit of journaling. This is not to bring glory upon ourselves but to bring glory to God for His work in and through us. It’s an effective way to assess aspects of our walk with Christ that need improvement or identify areas the Spirit may be at work in us.
Acknowledging these areas need not make us feel guilty, but it may reveal where we need to stay on (or return to) the path to spiritual transformation.

We are Free in Christ
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed," John 8:36
We are all sinners, and without the death and resurrection of Jesus, we would not have eternal life with God.
Jesus is the Son, and He is the one who liberates us from the penalty and power of sin in our lives.
We are sinners, and we will always be sinners, but with the acceptance of Jesus in our lives and confessing our sins, we will be free to live an eternal life with Him.
As Easter approaches, let us never forget what Jesus did for us. Our sins were nailed up on that cross with Him; forgiveness has been given.
We are free indeed.

We are Free in Christ

During this Lenten season, I’ve searched my heart and focused on true confession. While doing this, the enemy reminds me that I fall short and mess up. But Jesus is greater than the enemy, and nothing else matters when we focus on the Savior’s words.
I am human, and I’m not perfect. And neither are you.
The truth is that we will never be perfect because of the world we live in.
The only perfect person to walk on this earth died for our sins.
While we aren’t perfect, we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14

Hyssop is a small bushy plant that the Israelites used to brush the blood of the Passover lambs over the lintel and two doorposts (Exodus 12:22). It was also used with vinegar and offered to Jesus to drink from while He was dying on the cross (John 19:29).
In Psalm 51, David asks God to “purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.”
As Christ-followers living in a sinful world, we all need cleansing with hyssop - me included! While the hyssop plant may not be readily available, we can and should confess our sins.
Take some time today to sit with God and confess your sins. It’s no fun to do, but it needs to be done.
