I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life

The men had gathered in the Upper Room, still trying to comprehend all that they had seen and heard from the One who called Himself the Messiah.

While they believed who He was, they still questioned the things that Jesus said. The apostles’ human way of thinking was in the literal sense. They could see the physical side of His teaching, but when Jesus spoke figuratively, they were at a loss.

Much like I am when I study the Word.

For example, in John 14:2-4, when Jesus said, In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”

These are the questions that often pop in my mind:

“Where’s the house at?”

“How big are the rooms?”

“Will I have a room to myself?”

“OK, Jesus, you prepared the room for me already. What if I don’t like your decorating style?”

“If you know the way to where, Jesus, could you please let me know? I like to know the directions ahead of time.”

The list could go on and on, and before I know it, I’ve spent 20 minutes going down a rabbit trail wondering what these rooms would be like.

Thank you, Jesus, for having patience with me, and thank you to the writers of the study notes in my Bible for getting me back on track.

I know that I’m not the only one who has questioned what Jesus meant when He spoke those words. Bless his heart, Thomas spoke asked the exact same thing. Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Yes, Lord Jesus, how can we know the way?

I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE

Jesus’ response to Thomas’s question was one of truth, love and gentleness.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Notice that Jesus didn’t say, “I am a way, and a truth, and a life.”

Jesus is THE way, THE truth, and THE life.

Jesus is the only way to the Father.

He is the Path, the Word of God, and the Resurrection that will lead us to eternal life with the Father.

Nothing and no one else will get us there.

Only Jesus.

Period.

The End.

What About the Rooms?

Jesus is referring to His second coming, or the “pretribulation rapture” after His ascending into Heaven. He went ahead of us to prepare a place for us, His believers. When that time comes, all believers will be taken from Earth to Heaven.

Listen, I do not entirely understand all the terminology regarding the Book of Revelation and the first and second comings of Christ, but what I do completely understand is this: He is coming. There is absolutely no doubt in that.

Why is there no doubt?

Because the Bible says so, and the Bible is the truth!

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Run and cling to Him, sweet friends!

Holy Week is Quickly Approaching

As many times as I have read this verse, I have still discovered something new. Jesus said these words during His last gathering with the disciples in the Upper Room.

This was the Last Supper.

A significant “a-ha!” moment for me, and I hope for you, also.

It wasn’t a coincidence that the Lord laid it on my heart to blog about this verse heading into Holy Week.

It’s time to prepare for Easter, friends.

Our Savior needs to be front and center in our hearts and lives, and not just during this season, but every day.

What can you do to prepare your hearts? I would love to hear how you are preparing for Easter. Please comment or email me at missy@missyeversole.com. I am praying for each and every one of you!

Blessings to you all!
