A Verse to Pray for Your Child

Homecoming 2018 is in the books, and it was a memorable one! One of the highlights was that both boys were nominated to be on the homecoming court to represent their respective classes.

When our sons arrived home from the pep rally, they were met by an over-ecstatic mom squealing like a teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert.

“Calm down, mom! It’s not a big deal!” my boys nonchalantly said.

They were right; it wasn’t a big deal; however, once I explained to them why I was so ecstatic, they were a bit more excited – in their own teenager way!

Due to the vast differences in activities and classes, the chances of the boys doing something together in high school are slim to none. Homecoming court brought them together for the first, and probably the last time in their high school career.

That was why I was so excited! Not because of the whole aspect of the homecoming court, but because they were up there together. Two brothers who were smiling, laughing and enjoying the moment with one another.

It is a moment like this that I will cherish in my heart forever.

Psalm 127:3 reads, “Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him.” New Living Translation

When my older was about six months old, I purchased a painting of a mother holding her son, and this verse is the caption. Being a brand new mom, I cherished that image because that was what I was truly feeling. Children are a gift from the Lord.

when I am arguing with a strong-willed child to clean his room.

when my son is tired and gets snippy with me in front of other students at school.

Children are a gift from the LORD.

when I love them unconditionally, but I do not really like them at the moment.

Children are a gift from the LORD.

when I get a big bear hug from them for no reason, just because.

Children are a gift from the LORD.

when I hear them say, “I love you, mom!”

Children are a gift from the LORD.

when we are all sitting around the kitchen table and laugh until our sides hurt.

Children are a gift from the LORD.

We all know that parenting is not-for-the-faint of heart. It’s hard, it can get ugly, but it is the most rewarding experience that we will ever have in our lives.

Take some time this weekend to enjoy your children, because they are indeed a gift from the LORD.
