Do Not Be Anxious

As a young mom, I was told over and over again by veteran moms to, “Enjoy this time that you have with your sons, in a blink of an eye, they will be in high school!”

I would smile at those moms and nodded in agreement. All the while, in my mind,  I was rolling my eyes and thinking about the sleep that I was not getting! I wasn’t focused on the future, just the current stage of life that I was in.

Fast-forward to today and Grant, my soon-be-junior in high school, is taking the ACT.

It was true about what those moms said – I blinked and my boys are in high school and one is already taking the early steps in preparation for college.

A wave of emotions and thoughts have fill my mind — “We only have two more years with Grant and then he is off to college!” “How can Connor be a freshman already?  Only four more years and then he is off to college!” The Lord quickly reminded me that I was focusing on the future, a future that He has complete control over!

My thoughts need to revert to my younger mom days and remember to just focus on the stage of life that I am currently in.

And that stage is being a mom of two high schoolers, who in a few years will be in college and pursing the plans that the Lord has intended for them to fulfill. I do not need to be anxious about tomorrow.

Want to know why?

Because God tell us so, that’s why!

Yes, our family will be going through a transition stage in the next few years. A stage where I’m sure will bring both tears of joy and of sadness. Joy in seeing how the Lord will be working in our lives and sadness over that fact this phase in our life of raising our boys will be over.

The Lord gave us our sons to raise for just a short time and one day in the near future, they will be on their own. However, until that day comes, I am going to be living day by day and I will not be anxious about tomorrow!
